Volumetric weight, also known as dimensional weight, is a measure used in logistics to calculate the freight charges for a package based on its volume rather than its actual weight. It is determined by multiplying the package's length, width, and height and dividing the result by a volumetric divisor. This method is employed when the size of a package is significant compared to its actual weight. Carriers apply volumetric weight calculations to ensure fair pricing, particularly for lightweight, bulky items that may occupy a substantial amount of space in the transport vehicle.
